Studying members of such developer profile aggregators, we found an ecosystem that revolves around the social programmer. Developers are assessing each other to evaluate whether other developers are interesting, worth following, or worth collaborating with. They are self-conscious about being assessed, and thus manage their public images. They value passion for software development, new technologies, and learning. Some recruiters participate in the ecosystem and use it to find candidates for hiring; other recruiters struggle with the interpretation of signals and issues of trust. This mutual assessment is changing how software engineers collaborate and how they advance their skills." links: doi: "http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?doid=2441776.2441791" tags: - "empirical" - "collaborative learning" - "social" researchr: "https://researchr.org/publication/SingerFilhoClearyTreudeStoreySchneider2013" cites: 0 citedby: 0 pages: "103-116" booktitle: "Proceedings of the 2013 conference on Computer supported cooperative work" series: "CSCW" kind: "inproceedings" key: "SingerFilhoClearyTreudeStoreySchneider2013" - title: "Verzahnung von Requirements Engineering und Geschäftsprozessdesign" author: - name: "Matthias Weidlich" link: "https://researchr.org/alias/matthias-weidlich" - name: "Alexander Grosskopf" link: "https://researchr.org/alias/alexander-grosskopf" - name: "Daniel Lübke" link: "http://daniel-luebke.de" - name: "Kurt Schneider" link: "https://researchr.org/alias/kurt-schneider" - name: "Eric Knauss" link: "http://www.se.uni-hannover.de/en/People/Eric-Knauss" - name: "Leif Singer" link: "http://www.se.uni-hannover.de/en/People/Leif-Singer" year: "2009" month: "3" abstract: "Geschäft und IT wachsen insbesondere in SOA-Projekten immer stärker zusammen. Although previous research has focused on understanding both the technical and business aspects, the social side of software ecosystems is less understood. To fill this gap, this paper presents the results of an empirical study aimed at understanding the influence of social aspects on the adoption and permanence of developers in software ecosystems. We conducted 25 interviews with software developers and we distributed an online questionnaire which included responses from 83 developers of mobile software applications. Using grounded theory techniques, we identified a complex social system based on continuous interaction and mutual support between different actors, including internal and external developers to the ecosystem, community developers, end users and businesses. Our results highlight the importance of social aspects in software ecosystems during the initial phase of adoption, as well as the continued participation of developers." researchr: "https://researchr.org/publication/FerreiraMirandaFilhode-SouzaTreudeSinger2015" cites: 0 citedby: 0 booktitle: "Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium in Collaborative Systems" kind: "inproceedings" key: "FerreiraMirandaFilhode-SouzaTreudeSinger2015" - title: "Using Gamification as a Collaboration Motivator for Software Development Teams: A Preliminary Framework" author: - name: " F. Its use is becoming very popular in software development organizations due to work being based upon human-centric and brain-intensive activity. This paper presents the topics of collaboration and gamification in the context of software engineering, and proposes a framework that identifies the most common collaboration issues that affect software development teams, and how to apply game elements to motivate a change on their behaviors." researchr: "https://researchr.org/publication/5fef23b6-e3a7-4645-a8d1-760eac59d0ed" cites: 0 citedby: 0 booktitle: "Proceedings of the Brazilian Symposium in Collaborative Systems" kind: "inproceedings" key: "5fef23b6-e3a7-4645-a8d1-760eac59d0ed"
