  abstract: "This paper analyzes two variants of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for error-concealment: blockwise PCA and clustered blockwise PCA. Realistic communication channels are not error free. Since the signals transmitted on real-world channels are highly compressed, regardless of cause, the quality of images reconstructed from any corrupted data can be very unsatisfactory. Error concealment is intended to ameliorate the impact of channel impairments by utilizing a priori information about typical images in conjunction with available picture redundancy to provide subjectively acceptable renditions of affected picture regions. Some experiments have been performed with the two proposed algorithms and they are shown."

  abstract: "The behavior of a system is studied through a simulation model. Once developed and validated, the simulation model can be used to investigate a wide variety of issues, as well as propose improvements. This research objective is to propose a novel simulation paradigm to improve the transmission of content in wireless telecommunication systems. The simulation environment employs a pre-coding process of bits based on the application of a technique relying on discrete events and signals before the modulation process. The signal transmission on the channel occurs in the discrete domain with the implementation of discrete entities in the process of bit generation applied at a low level of abstraction in a wireless telecommunication system. The simulation considered the advanced differential binary phase shift keying (DBPSK) as the modulation format for signal transmission in an AWGN channel, using different hardware platforms and in the studies. The results show improvements ranging from 9 to 35% in memory utilization, related to information compression, in the context of the research."

  abstract: "Fast changing, increasingly complex, and diverse computing platforms pose central problems in scientific computing: How to achieve, with reasonable effort, portable optimal performance? We present SPIRAL, which considers this problem for the performance-critical domain of linear digital signal processing (DSP) transforms. For a specified transform, SPIRAL automatically generates high-performance code that is tuned to the given platform. SPIRAL formulates the tuning as an optimization problem and exploits the domain-specific mathematical structure of transform algorithms to implement a feedback-driven optimizer. Similar to a human expert, for a specified transform, SPIRAL \"intelligently\" generates and explores algorithmic and implementation choices to find the best match to the computer's microarchitecture. The \"intelligence\" is provided by search and learning techniques that exploit the structure of the algorithm and implementation space to guide the exploration and optimization. SPIRAL generates high-performance code for a broad set of DSP transforms, including the discrete Fourier transform, other trigonometric transforms, filter transforms, and discrete wavelet transforms. Experimental results show that the code generated by SPIRAL competes with, and sometimes outperforms, the best available human tuned transform library code."
