Ex-Dean and Professor of Computer Science and Research ECMIT, Dubai.
Born in Calcutta on 12th September 1952, Dr. Om Kumar Harsh possesses four research degrees, namely Ph.D., D.Sc. (Physics), Ph.D. (Information Systems, branch of Computer Science from Australia) and Master of Electronic Engineering by research from Australia. He has also completed two more Masters Degrees namely in Physics, Engineering (Australia) and Computer Science (Australia). He also possesses a post graduate diploma in Instrumentation from Australia. In addition, Dr. Harsh has also guided half a dozen Ph. D. students, 4 M. Tech students and several Masters’ and Honours students in various areas and published around 50 research papers (in addition to presented in the conferences) in journals of International repute in the field of Plasma Physics, Semiconductors, X-Rays, Chemical Shift, Software Engineering, Distance Education, Information Systems, Knowledge Management.
Dr. Harsh has a wonderful academic career of working as an academician in all the three fields namely Physics, Engineering and Computer Science. He has done his research work with four internationally recognized scientists including Professor K.S. Srivastava, Professor R.N. Singh, Professor B.K. Agarwal and Professor Martin Green. It should be noted that Professor R.N. Singh led the Indian Delegation to tour the Europe and US for the scientific exploration in India while Professor Martin Green is the one of the possible Noble Prize Winner candidate.
One of his important achievements came when in a ceremony at the Kanpur University, ex-President of India and sitting Vice-President, Dr K. R. Narayanan, awarded first Doctor of Science degree to Dr. Harsh in 1990. It should be noted that earlier the Kanpur University conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree to Professor Sir C.V Raman.
Research papers of Dr. Harsh have widely been used across Europe and American continents; Eminent International Scientist and late Professor B.K. Agarwal of Allahabad University (who was the research supervisor of Dr Harsh) has cited his important research papers in his book published from Springer-varlog (West Germany).
Dr. Harsh has widely been invited by various universities around the world to deliver his research talks. One of his most important lectures was delivered at the Australian National University, Canberra in November 2000 which is available on the Web. He has been the member of the various international committees.
Dr. Harsh has also been engaged in industrial oriented academic work where he has been utilising his overall knowledge in the fields of Physics, Engineering, Computing and Instrumentations. His research work in Plasma Physics, X-Rays, Hydrodynamics, Scattering and Software Engineering, highlight his ability of dealing with multiple disciplines. Dr Harsh collaborated in various international conferences and seminars and presented over 40 research papers in varied areas.
Dr. Harsh has served at I.T. BHU, Lucknow University, Kanpur University, University of New South Wales in Sydney, Monash University and University of South Australia. Dr. Harsh also has industrial experience in Australia e.g. Compaq Computers and TLC. He has been a member of various Academic and Industrial committees, and has contributed in national and International conferences. In addition, Dr Harsh availed couple of visiting assignments in various countries. Dr Harsh has been involved in distance education (including research, guiding and teaching) for more than seven years.
Dr. Harsh has taught a wide range of subjects starting from Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering and Instrumentation. In addition to above, Distance Education Technology and Teaching & Learning have also fascinated him. Recently, some of his research papers in Information Systems have been published in the International Journals where he done original research by extending Nonaka model from two dimensions to three dimensions.
Dr. Harsh left India in August 1994, and since then he has been serving in various organisations in Australia. He has also worked in Monash University, Malaysia.
He has supervised excellent research students who are working in various positions across Australia, India and US.
He has also written and edited couple of general articles published in the various magazines and newspapers across the globe. In the beginning of his career, Dr Harsh was awarded senior and Post-doctoral research fellowships by the Council of Scientific and Industrial research, New Delhi, India. In the early stage of his Ph.D. research work, the New Mexico State University of United States of America offered him a research fellowship.
Dr Harsh was also awarded Von Humboldt fellowship to work in the West Germany in 1989, however, due to shortage of funds (as a consequence of German Unification) he could not avail it. He has also been selected as a Professor & Dean to work at the Prestigious US institute at the Dubai. In addition, many other Universities offered him academic positions.
Dr Harsh is widely involved with various universities of UK, USA and South Asia for the courses development, articulation agreement and various other academic activities. His present research work is on “Software and Knowledge Management and Reuse Techniques” which is a valuable tool for the cost saving strategies for building software. His latest research work is to extend the pioneer work of Nonaka (1994) from two to three dimensional systems where knowledge reuse has been recognised first time as a prime factor.
Previously Dr Harsh has also been associated with Oman Educational Services (in collaboration with California University) and University of New England, Australia. He is an adjunct Professor of American University of London.
